spring thing

Is it actually spring yet? Because it kind of feels like summer. In case you have never been to the Antelope Valley (which I am in no way promoting you do so) its more like Death Valley; and although I'm sure I've made that joke before, its actually so true its not very funny; or maybe I'm just not that funny. No, I definitely am.

I was really into this editorial from Nylon mag because it felt right for the season, an ode to spring but not in a stereotypical florals and pastels kind of way. Instead very modern and fresh.

I'm wondering if colored hair is going to eventually become so overdone that its kind of disgusting. I feel like thats what happened with ombre hair. Once a commercial hair company starts selling the d.i.y kits I think its safe to say the originality/personal style factor has waned and although it may still look cool, its kind of too mainstream, all the rage to actually pull off organically.

San Fran Summer

I love Summer and I'm so excited we're currently right dab in the middle! I do have all this anxiety though to make the most of every moment, spend as much time "out" as possible, and to wear lots of flashy, only borderline trashy stuff like barely there shorts and things like sequined tops with minimal fabric that, well, you simply can't get away with as easily in other seasons.

Summer is synonymous with fashion. Some of the best pieces known to man are infinite fashion staples, like halter/tank tops and mini shorts. Dare I say fashion is even at its most fun in the summertime? Yes, indeed I believe it is! Though, living in San Francisco calls for a few alterations..

Summer out here is a little darker, I suppose it has something to do with the barely even sixty degree temperature and the city's signature winds. Nevertheless, I find myself seriously into shorts right now, preferably colored denim and belted, even if I do have to layer them over (sheer) tights.  I've also really been drawn to oversized tees. These two pieces together make like thee bombest couple.

As a whole, despite the shady weather forecast and the fact that I have to layer in July, I've still got the summer spirit! Can I get a whoo hoo?! And it's not actually a bad thing that I can still legitimately rock my beloved ratty beanies and hobo flannels right now without risk of heat stroke.

For Japan Because They're Awesome

In the wake of the horrific events Japan has recently endured, even the thought of one of the world's most agriculturally beautiful and technologically advanced countries now conjure up feelings of sadness and longing. However, it is in times like these when smiles, fun, and a sense free spiritedness are needed most of all. If you've been following my blog for some time now or even seen just one of my looks, you know that the originality, eccentricity, and free spiritedness Japanese fashion exudes has always served as deep inspiration. May the land of the setting sun continue to shine. Please pray for Japan and donate here.

That Chick from the H&M ads

..is how I began my search on the beyond awesome inspiration who I now know is Freja Beha [Erichson]. I didn't even know her name or if I'd ever seen her previous work, but I couldn't shake the surge of inspiration and energy I got every time I passed one of her posters or billboards Downtown. Compelled to take notes, her naturally cool aesthetic whirled my mind with inspiration. The perfectly pronounced high cheekbones, the effortless edge that exudes bohemian bad girl, and her free flowing wavy locks..she alone made me want to shop at H&M. It is safe to say she is my current favorite model and definite Spring inspiration.

Hairy Details

First and foremostly, sorry for being a crap blogger and not tending to this blog as lovingly and seriously as I once did. Not to make excuses but life has never been busier; working non stop, preparing for my San Francisco move, and most devastating: being two steps from a meltdown over my laptop just up and deciding to no longer work (I'm using my brother's right now and it's so not the same; my photos,my music, my life! Oh, I'll never get over this). But all hysterical crying aside, here I am and I vow to be better, do better, and blog better, all before the whole New Years Resolution thing even arrives.

Speaking of better, I'm changing the mane again, which means serious hairspiration. Although I've rocked the cropped, pixie, Rihanna reminiscent look more than a few times (see here, here, and here) I'm no where near over it and I still get awkwardly overexcited when I see girls with short curls (or just short hair in general; I was trying to rhyme). I adore the natural mystery, confidence, and effortless chic factor that seems to ooze from shorter hairstyles. I have yet to officially make up my mind yet though, although I am sure I want a light color, maybe blonde, I'm not sure, definitely something dramatic yet versatile and adequately effortless; but..I'm not sure.
