Long Live the King

I could go on forever and literally ever about the greatness, amazingness, and utterly unmatchable talent that is Michael Jackson. While television and radio play his more popular videos today and half heartedly nod to the music on behalf of this fated anniversary, I smile in appreciation, happy that at least for one day, the world remembers the awesome astounding, angel of an artist that graced us with not only his music, but his heart.

Remember the Time

Happy Birthday to the King of Pop and greatest performer that EVER lived! May your memory and masterpieces live on, continuing to instill joy, passion, faith, and fun in our everyday lives. Thank you for being such an inspiration lyrically, physically, and fashionably..your influence lives on forever.

I looove this, esp. the gold pants and the fedora, they're perfect understated compliments. In addition, Michael Jackson was the original military jacket rocker, before Balmain even thought of it.

I looove how the combination of the Balmain military jacket and Rihanna's hair clearly appears to be a MJ inspired look.

My mum got me a suuuper bangin' MJ shirt that I will dutifully and honorably be wearing in celebration of his 51st birthday! I'd like to pair the look with glitter blasted dark denim pants, however, I'm not too eager to pull out the dark denim just yet, summer is still here! I'm also thinking of pinning the MJ buttons on a vest..

love

Today I am thanking God that I live near LA! No, not because of the amazing shopping venues and culturally diverse population (which are both top notch reasons, don't get it twisted ;)) but Michael Jackson's public funeral/tribute is on Tuesday at the Staples Center! I want to go, I need to go. Just like the fashion blogosphere, it's so soul enriching and heart warming to share something you're passionate about and love with other people that feel the same way. To come together and comemarate a legend, celebrate his unsurmountable work and remember his magic with what is bound to be milions of people, will be complete bliss!

Growing up, Michael Jackson was a staple in my household. My mum has always loved him, and in turn my brother and grew up loving him as well. This shirt is from the 1984 Victory Tour MJ did with his brothers; the back of the tee has a picture of him with all of them on there. My mum went to a lot of MJ concerts back in the day, so this was one of many vintage concert tees in her posession; I especially loved this one because of the siiick sunnies MJ's rocking on the front!

P.S- As I made my way through the airport, a young woman ran up to me and said "OMG, I swear I thought you were Rihanna!" Uhh...sooo...I politely smiled in return and continued on my search for Gate A9; inside though, I was slightly joyed; I kinda looove Rihanna.

Atteeeeeention!

Aaaaah, I'm being attacked by military jackets!!! EVERYWHERE!!! Thanks a lot Balmain, you trendsetter, you! Although I am a 'true fashionista' (heh, heh) and hate the thought of following trends b/c I'm sooo uber-fashionably, uniquely, creative, and independently stylish (riiiight)...I must admit I am loooovin' this military jacket thing going on EVERYWHERE!!!
I was in this boutique in LA the other day called Fame and there was this gooooorgeous, flyyer than falcons, bombness-infested military inspired jacket! It was fire engine red with luscious gold detailing, and hit the hipbone with perfection! Sadly, I failed to purchase it (recession, hello, haha) and even sadderly, failed to take a picture of it, grrr... But mark my words when I say it was BANGIN' to the umpteenth power! It better be there when I return or I'm getting a real military jacket, a real military rifle, and hunting down the evil shopper who dared to purchase the jacket that rests safely in the lay-away section...of my mind.
We're not surprised that Rihanna rocked the trend amaziiiingly, right? And although I've heard that she's recieving some heat for her MJ's hey day inspired hairdo...it completes her look beautifully and she pulls it off sooo hard! Memo to those living under a rock: Rihanna is the shyzz-nizz, indeed!

p.s: ...and while I looove Rihanna, I must take this oppurtunity to vent that I absolutely despise (x1000) when people wear long sleeves with shorts...grr...you're either hot or you're cold, hot or cold dammit, you can't be both! That goes for pairing heavy knits with sandals too...yeesh...I feel a 'fashion dont's' post coming along...
